【职业培训】我校4名学科教师参加Collegeboard AP教师职业培训

    美国大学理事会将于2016年8月15日至19日在大连理工大学附属高中举办2016年中国AP教师职业发展暑期学院。我校上海常青藤学校学生处Sisley老师、physic老师 Rex,Math老师Nash,English老师Crystal赴大连参加 AP培训。

    这是一次特别为中国的高中AP教师量身设计的AP教师暑期学院。作为大学理事会开设的AP教师职业发展的形式之一,AP教师暑期学院是一个为期五天的教师进修和强化的暑期训练课程,专门为AP教师们(无论是有经验的或是新老师)设计以提供AP课程教学所需要的指导和训练,并探讨如何顺利展开AP教学和有效利用教AP以前的经验和方法。来自不同AP学校的教师将聚集在一起,交流AP课程和考试的教学经验和心得。暑期学院主讲专家都是大学理事会特聘的有多年AP教学兼教师培训经验的专家,使用大学理事会AP教师职业发展专有材料,他们将与所有学员一起分享他们丰富的教学经验。在培训的最后一天,完成五天所有培训的学员将获得培训证书,部分学员的证书可能通过邮寄的方式寄送。

    所有参加暑期学院的学员将学习到如何运用具体的放方法来设计AP课程教学方案并能有效的开展教学;如何设计相关的活动与测验,让学生进行创新思维和批判性思维;采用正确的策略帮助学生更有效地准备AP考试以及如何根据课程框架要求来编写或修改教学方案并完成课程审核。

    2016年中国AP教师暑期学院将设以下四门科目的AP教师培训和升学指导员培训:
    1.AP微积分AB&BC
    2.AP物理C: 电磁学和力学
    3.AP美国历史
    4.Pre-AP&AP英语语言及写作
    5.升学指导员培训

暑期学院通常会包含以下内容:

●  AP考试:命题、评卷 (包括部分2016AP考试答题范例)
●  教学大纲、教案、及练习
●  如何更新和改进已经开设的AP课程
●  AP课程要求的最新动向
●  教授初学或中级程度的学生的策略和方法
 
●  课程的纵向连贯The College Board is offering the 2016 AP Summer Institute in China, to be held at High School Attached to Dalian University of Technology, Liaoning on August 15-19, 2016.
 AP Summer Institute is an intensive five-day AP teacher training program designed to prepare teachers for the College Board's AP Curriculum. Participants will gain experience with the concepts and goals of AP courses and their corresponding exams. The Institutes will address curriculum, pedagogy and technology as supported by the College Board standards. It is suitable for both new and experienced AP teachers to receive a condensed AP curricular and teaching education. Each session will be led by College Board-certified AP consultants specially invited from the U.S. and will provide participants with the experiences necessary to successfully teach an AP course in their discipline. They will share their expertise in AP and first-hand AP teaching experience with the participants. Individuals completing ALL the five-day class sessions will receive a certificate of completion which will be given out on the last day or mailed after the institute ends. 
The participants will be able to apply concrete strategies for designing and implementing an effective AP curriculum in their discipline; develop activities and assessments that engage students in critical thinking; implement strategies to effectively prepare students for the AP exam and develop or revise a syllabus to align with course requirements and complete the course audit. 

The APSI in Dalian will offer the following sessions:
1. AP Calculus AB&BC (combined)
2. AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism and Physics C: Mechanics (combined)
3. AP U.S. History 
4. Pre AP&AP English Language and Composition
5. High School Counselor Workshop 


Topics that are often covered in summer institute sessions include:
●  AP courses: goals, objectives, content, resources, bibliographies, and equipment
●  The AP Examination: how it is developed and graded (with some samples from the 2016 AP exam)
●  Syllabi, lesson plans, and assignments
●  How to refresh and improve existing AP courses
●  Recent changes in AP Course Descriptions
●  Strategies for teaching students at beginning or intermediate levels
●  Vertical teaming

2016 AP Summer Institute Instructors Dalian, China

High School Counselor Workshop: Shun Fang Chang
Shun Fang has a master's degree of counseling education. She worked as assistant Principal, Director of College Office, at the Bronox High School of     Science, New York and was a former member on the Board of Trustees for the College Board. She helped over a thousand students successfully receive admission to top 20 universities in the U.S. Shun Fang has presented at various education conferences on topics related to counseling and has given many workshops to new and experienced counselors both in the U.S. and overseas. Shun Fang has received many distinguished awards, including Counselor of the Year, Best Teacher and Outstanding Asian Educator. She has written a book the American College Admission Guide, published in 2010. 

AP Physics: Jesus Hernandez
Jesus has taught physics at Lawrence High School in Massachusetts and at The Manhattan Center for Science and Math HS in New York City during the last sixteen years. He is the co-chair of the AP-Physics C Test Development Committee and an AP physics consultant since 2004. He has been an AP physics reader for seven years. Mr. Hernandez has been trained to facilitate Pre AP Science and the Creating a Learner Centered Classroom workshops. He also has been coaching new AP Consultants and AP physics teachers. Mr. Hernandez was an advisory board member of the Physics for the 21st Century program produced by the Science Media Group at the Harvard- Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. He was a Finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science teaching in 2005 and he was selected as the 2011 MIT Inspirational Teacher Award. 

AP Calculus AB&BC (combined): Mark Howell
Mark teaches mathematics and computer science at his alma mater, Gonzaga High School in Washington, DC. He earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics in 1976 and Master of Arts in Teaching in 1981, both from the University of Chicago. He has served the AP Calculus community since 1989 in a variety of roles, including AP Exam Reader, Table Leader, and Question Leader. A long-time College Board consultant conducting workshops and summer institutes, Mark was a member of the AP Calculus Development Committee from 1998 to 2001. He has spoken at professional conferences in the United States, Australia, China, Thailand, Switzerland, Malaysia, and Colombia. He is o-author of the popular prep book Be Prepared for the AP Calculus Exam from Skylight Publishing, and author of the current AP Teachers Guide for Calculus. He is a contributing author to each of the College Board's Topic Focus publications in AP Calculus, Approximation, and Series. He won the Presidential Award from the District of Columbia in 1993, and received the Tandy Technology and Siemens Awards in 1999. He was a special interest in the use of technology to enhance the teaching and learning of mathematics, and has served as a consultant to both the Hewlett-Packard and Texas Instruments calculator operations.

AP U.S. History: Sue Reeder
Sue Reeder has been a teacher for thirty-eight years. She is also a part time adjunct teacher at a community college, and is currently teaching AP US History to Chinese students in Guangzhou, China. She's been an AP Reader since 1994, the Table Leader since 2001, Question Leader since 2013 and AP Consultant since 1997. She's also a writer for College Board curriculum frameworks for new exam for Florida, for ETS test questions, Cengae Learning Exam View and Teaching Point Advanced/ AP US History.

Pre-AP AP English Language Composition: Rebecca McFarlan
Rebecca McFarlan is a National Board Certified teacher who has taught English on both the high school and college levels for 34 years. She has 28 years of experience teaching both the AP English Literature and the AP English Language courses and has been a reader and table reader for the AP English Language courses and has been a reader for the AP English Literature Exam. Currently she teaches at Indian Hill High School in Cincinnati, OH. In addition to full time teaching duties, she serves as Instructional Leader for grades 9-12 and Program Leader for K-12. she is a college board consultant for AP English Literature, AP English Language, and Pre-AP English. For the past five years she has served as a coach and mentor to other College Board consultants. In 2011 she became a College Board consultant trained to work as an English coach with districts on a sustained basis. Rebecca co-authored the article "Bridging the Grammar Gap: An Interdisciplinary Approach" which appeared in The English Journal in January 2003. In 2004 she received the marhta Holden Jennings Master Teacher award. She has developed three online workshops for AP Central  and has worked on the development of several Pre-AP workshops. Cyrrently she is working on a teacher's mannual for Beford/ St. Martin Publishers.
